How To Break Through A Fitness Plateau

Summer is officially here! But what if you haven’t got your ‘summer body’ yet… is it too late? Absolutely not! 

Just because it’s already summer doesn’t mean you have to give up on achieving your physique goals. There are things you can do NOW that will have you on the path to achieving a sculpted physique so you can conquer the summer with confidence. Here’s how! 

#1 Nail your nutrition

Many people are under the assumption that exercise is most important when it comes to achieving your summer body, but in reality, your physique is mostly dictated by your nutrition. I’m sure you all know the saying ‘you can’t outrun a bad diet’!

There is no better time than NOW to start focusing on your nutrition. If you wish to lose body fat, this means you should be eating in a calorie deficit (eating less calories than you burn each day). This can be achieved by eating smaller portion sizes, eating more vegetables, increasing your protein intake, reducing alcohol consumption… or simply following an LSF meal plan

#2 Create a workout schedule 

You do not need to aim for ‘perfection’... you need to aim for achievable. This means committing to making exercise part of your weekly routine. Take a look at your calendar and assess how many days a week you can realistically fit in a workout. Now is the time to ditch the ‘all or nothing’ approach. Even express workouts done 3x a week like in Full Body Blitz, can be enough to transform your physique! 

#3 Don't Just Do Cardio 

Think cardio is the best way to lose fat? Think again. Just doing cardio can be one of the biggest fitness mistakes when it comes to fat loss. Research shows that the best fat loss results come from doing resistance-training with some added cardio. This means that the bulk of your training should be based around lifting weights, with some additional cardio added to the end of your sessions, or on non-resistance training days. The combination of weights and cardio will help build lean muscle mass and fire up metabolism.

#4 Get your steps up

Walking is so underrated. Focusing on simply walking more is an incredible way to burn more calories and boost metabolism. This is because walking can boost ‘non-exercise activity thermogenesis’ which directly increases metabolic rate. To put it simply, anytime you move your body (even if it’s not a structured workout), you are burning energy that will help you lean out. It’s ideal to walk 10K steps a day, but aim for what is achievable for you!
