How I Stayed Positive Throughout 2020

Girls, it just me, or has 2020 been the longest year EVER?! It seems like a lifetime ago we were shouting “Happy New Year!” and raising our glasses, optimistically, to what we all thought would be our year to thrive. We’d go on that dream holiday we’d been saving for months, years! We’d say YES to more experiences we’d been putting off. Oh, and as for the girl who leaves her clean laundry, unfolded in a basket… We were DEFINITELY saying good riddance to her!

New year, new me! Right?
Well… Not exactly.

The trajectory of 2020 has been tumultuous, unpredictable, and for the most part – COMPLETELY out of our control. While it may not have turned out how we’d originally planned, it has forced us to slow down and reevaluate our priorities. I want to preface this blog by saying I absolutely acknowledge the position of privilege I am in. I understand that the lasting impact of COVID-19 continues to place strain on many communities over the world. My heart is with you all!

We may not have control over the external, but we always have the power to take control of the internal; our thoughts and mindset. This was the motivation behind creating my 6 week GLOW UP Challenge! I want to teach you girls that even in the darkest of times, a single positive thought holds the power to completely change the course of our day. Read on for my tips on finding the power of positive thinking.

Mean Girls

Our thoughts ultimately create our experiences
If we allow negative thoughts to shape our reality, we’re not setting ourselves up for a very good time. You’ve heard about the concept of manifesting, right? To put it simply, the premise of manifesting that if something is consistently at the forefront of your mind you will subconsciously base your actions around achieving what that is. Our thoughts create our experiences, therefore, we experience what we think. Every time you feel a negative thought trying to creep in, combat it with a positive one. This isn’t always an easy process. Your mind will try to fight back at you sometimes, and that’s okay - you can start small. A helpful tool I often use is journaling, in the notes of my phone, or by putting pen to paper. I know it can be hard to get into at first, but remember that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, this is something that will compound over time.

I want you babes to focus on adopting a growth mindset, as opposed to a fixed one. Instead of focusing on the problem, focus on finding a solution instead and looking for the silver lining. Don’t underestimate the power of your mind, queens!

Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset

Surround yourself with people who uplift you
Life’s too short to be surrounded by people who don’t energise you and support your dreams! I believe in quality over quantity. My circle is small, yet each person is there because of how they make me feel. I’m inspired by those around me and we push each other to become better versions of ourselves. Mental health is just as important as physical health
If we feel physical pain, we immediately do what we can to reduce that pain. Unfortunately, this is not the case for our mental health. As it presents differently and is often invisible - we tend to push it to the side. Exercise is one of my biggest outlets. I love lifting heavy and putting all of my focus into my session. Not only does this benefit me physically, but also does wonders for my mental health. You too can train like me with my GLOW UP Challenge! When I am feeling low, I will go through my mental health checklist to make sure I am doing all that I can to nurture my mental health –
